Loop 55 is stoked to house Sabrina Oh's debut paperback, "Muffin Weekend", a manual override on average weekends in Los Angeles to herself. The pocketbook sandwiches snapshots ripped from the haze of her mid-20s and a kind of sunshine that blankets the Southern California of the journaler's experience.
Muffin Weekend is a two-step affair. "Saturday: Top Of The Muffin" itemizes the fronts and backs of the casual things of a leaner estate sale haul—objects well-suited for sandwiching. "Sunday: The Other Half Of The Muffin" follows, a day of synthesis. Sunday is when the late breakfast thoughts of a diner overcome, undress and shake out in a booth at a NORMS in Van Nuys of the San Fernando Valley. Self-made consumerisms, self-told histories, private observations and not-conclusions mix, fold over one another and drive the omelette trip around a Southern California from memory. Patterns program, acid samples, crumbs play-doh.
For her debut release, Sabrina captures normals in the chaotic spins of fear and satisfaction known to her as free time. Muffin Weekend renders the wildchild Californian's status update on personal groove formation and weekends as fair chance at child's play.
